Differences between PDU sockets and ordinary sockets
2023-08-31

The PDU socket is the first and most close component of the operation of many devices, and the quality of the PDU socket directly affects each device. Designed according to the IEC standard, the power supply protection lightning arrester is designed to protect sensitive devices with single-phase AC power supply. It is used as the third-level power protection to protect devices from transient overvoltage caused by lightning strikes or electronic interference. The power protection lightning arrester adopts two-stage series linkage protection, the maximum flow rate can reach 20kA, the voltage protection level can be as low as 800V, the input and output are compatible with multinational standard plugs and various power matching, with recoverable overload protection device, the lightning arrester and the power strip perfect combination.

PDU power sockets are generally used in various fields such as data centers, distribution rooms, industrial factories and mines, production workshops, computer rooms and enterprise shopping malls, in these application environments.

Differences between PDUs and ordinary sockets

The difference in load power

Ordinary socket cable configuration load is relatively weak, most of the nominal rating of 10A; With 1.5mm2 cable, a small number of manufacturers will nominal 16A4000W, according to the national cable standard, no matter what kind of configuration, the rated carrying power of the ordinary socket is difficult to really reach 4000W or more. It can be seen that it is difficult to meet the requirements of the rapidly expanding computer room.

PDU socket (POWER DISTRIBUTION UNIT) is undoubtedly to a large extent to solve this problem, because any of its components can be customized conditions, can fully meet the safety of the computer room electricity environment. At present, industrial plugs are more and more widely used in PDU sockets, and the current number can meet the needs of 16A, 32A, 65A, 125A and so on, so it is very wrong to use ordinary non-professional sockets in the cabinet.

Difference of materials

Ordinary sockets are generally plastic, while PDU sockets are all metal. If the load is too large, the PDU socket has the function of fire prevention, while the ordinary socket does not. Since the PDU socket is a metal shell, it has an anti-static function, which protects sensitive electronic devices from electrostatic hazards and other effects. Thus, the stable operation of the equipment is protected.

Functional difference

Ordinary sockets have only functions such as power overload and total control, and the output of the jack is also very monotonous.

The PDU socket not only has many functions (lightning protection function, total control switch, overload protection, current and voltage display, remote monitoring function, smoke temperature and humidity online detection, etc.), but also the output module can be reasonably matched and selected according to the specific situation. (National standard, American standard, international IEC, German standard, etc.)

Life span gap

The average socket is usually 2-3 years. Plug and unplug about 4500-5000.

PDU sockets are made of super conductive metal - tin (phosphorus) bronze. With good wear resistance and electrical conductivity, full load power for an hour, the temperature rise is only 20 degrees, far lower than the national standard of 45 degrees, effectively prevent components from heating. Hot swap more than 10000, the service life of up to 10 years, is more than 5 times the ordinary socket.
